Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before applying. If something is missing, ask in the Discord and it will end up on this page.

Joining

How do I join LeafSMP?

Join our Discord, read #about and press "Apply for Whitelist". Fill in your Minecraft username, age and a little about yourself. Members review the application before you can join.

Is LeafSMP whitelisted?

Yes. You need an approved whitelist application before connecting to the server.

Can cracked players join LeafSMP?

No. You need a purchased Minecraft Java Edition account. Cracked or pirated accounts, including cracked accounts used through TLauncher, cannot join.

The server runs in online mode and verifies your account when you connect. A launcher set to offline mode cannot bypass that check.

Do I need to buy Minecraft to play on LeafSMP?

Yes. You need your own purchased copy of Minecraft Java Edition and must sign in with the Microsoft account that owns it. Playing on LeafSMP is free.

How old do you have to be to play on LeafSMP?

You must be 18 or over to join LeafSMP. There is no upper age limit.

How long does a LeafSMP application take?

Applications are reviewed by members in Discord. It can take longer overnight; there is no guaranteed response time.

Can I join if I do not live in the UK?

Yes. Players from anywhere are welcome. The server is hosted in the UK, so connection quality will depend on your location.

Do I need Discord to play on LeafSMP?

Yes. You apply through Discord, which is also where we share server updates. Game chat is linked to #chat.

Do I need a microphone or to use voice chat?

No. Voice chat is optional. To use it, install Simple Voice Chat from our modpack; it lets you talk to nearby players.

Can I apply again if I am turned down?

Yes. You can apply again. Include anything missing from your first application.

What should I write in my application?

Tell us a little about yourself, what you enjoy in Minecraft and what you are looking for in a server. A few honest sentences are enough. You could mention how long you have played or a build you enjoyed working on. You do not need to be an experienced builder.

Gameplay

Is LeafSMP vanilla?

LeafSMP is vanilla survival with a few conveniences: one /home, /back, /spawn and teleport requests. No client mods are required.

We run Paper with settings chosen to preserve vanilla mechanics, including TNT duping. Mob spawning is adjusted to help farms work with several players online.

Which Minecraft version does LeafSMP run?

LeafSMP runs Minecraft Java Edition 26.3. The live version is also shown on the front page.

Does LeafSMP support Bedrock Edition?

No. LeafSMP supports Minecraft Java Edition only. Console and mobile Bedrock clients cannot connect.

Do I need any mods to play on LeafSMP?

No. A standard Minecraft Java client works. Performance mods, shaders and map mods are welcome. Our optional modpack includes performance improvements and voice chat. Hacked clients and xray are not allowed.

Is LeafSMP pay to win? Are there paid ranks?

No. There are no paid ranks, crates, server shop, priority queue or donation link. Everyone has the same gameplay commands.

What difficulty is LeafSMP on?

LeafSMP runs on Hard difficulty, with keep inventory off.

Is keep inventory on?

No. You drop your inventory when you die. Ordinary survival deaths are part of the game; if items are lost through griefing or a server problem, ask Lewis to investigate.

Is PvP enabled on LeafSMP?

Yes, but everyone involved must agree. Duels are fine; attacking or trapping unsuspecting players is not.

Are there teleports, homes or commands?

Everyone gets one home. Use /sethome to set it, /home to return, /back to go back after a death and /spawn to return to community spawn.

Use /tpa to request a teleport to someone, /tpahere to invite them to you, and /tptoggle to turn requests off. There are no warps, kits or random teleport.

Can another player teleport to me without asking?

Ordinary player teleports use /tpa or /tpahere and need your acceptance. Use /tptoggle to stop requests. Trusted moderators have separate teleport access for investigations.

Is there an economy or a server shop?

There is no economy plugin or server shop. Players trade directly, usually with diamonds.

Browse player shops at spawn for prices and stock. Take what you need and leave payment as the shop sign asks.

Are the Nether and the End open?

Yes. Both dimensions are open, including fortresses, end cities, elytra and the dragon.

How many players are on LeafSMP?

There are twenty player slots. See the stats page for the current roster and activity.

The world

Does the LeafSMP world reset?

There are no seasons or scheduled world wipes. We carry the existing survival world forward when updating Minecraft.

When was the LeafSMP world created?

The survival world was created on 18 June 2026. Its age and player activity are on the stats page.

Is there a world border?

The world border uses the vanilla default, roughly thirty million blocks from the centre in each direction.

Can I build anywhere I want?

There are no land claims. Find a free spot, respect existing builds and ask before building close to someone. Coordinate changes to shared areas with the people using them.

What happens if somebody griefs my base?

Tell us in Discord, with the location and what is missing or damaged. We use the logs to investigate and arrange repairs or restitution.

Is there a live map of the LeafSMP world?

Yes. The map shows builds, terrain and online player positions. Players who are sneaking, in spectator mode or in creative mode are hidden.

The Player Deaths layer marks recent deaths for half an hour to help people find their items.

How do I put my base on the map?

Write [map] on the top line of a sign and the name of the place on the lines under it. A marker with that name appears on the map within about ten seconds, with your name on it.

Breaking the sign removes the marker, and so does editing the top line to say anything else. A banner renamed in an anvil works the same way. Each player can have up to ten markers at a time.

Can new players still find unexplored land?

Yes. There is plenty of room to settle and explore beyond the developed areas. The map can help you choose a spot.

Community and moderation

What kind of players does LeafSMP suit?

People who enjoy a small, cooperative survival community: building, redstone, farming, exploring and shared projects. You can join in or spend time on your own base.

How active is LeafSMP?

Activity varies. Check the live player count and recent activity to see when people have been playing.

There is no minimum playtime. If you are taking a long break, let us know in Discord so it can be considered during activity reviews.

Who runs LeafSMP?

Lewis runs and hosts LeafSMP. Trusted members help review applications and investigate problems, with Lewis making the final moderation decisions.

How is moderation handled?

Members can report problems in Discord. We check the logs and context, make dangerous areas safe and decide what needs repairing or further action.

The rules cover respect, griefing, stealing and consensual PvP. Lewis makes the call when something needs judgement.

Can I change the colour of my name?

Yes. Choose a colour in #roles in Discord. It applies to your name in Discord, game chat, the tab list and above your character. You can change or remove it whenever you like.

Are streamers and content creators allowed?

Yes. You are welcome to record or stream. Be considerate of the other players in your footage.

Technical

Where is LeafSMP hosted?

Lewis hosts and maintains the server on his own hardware in the United Kingdom, with fibre and battery backup.

What server software does LeafSMP run?

We run Paper with settings chosen to preserve vanilla mechanics, plus plugins for chat, moderation and a few shared conveniences. No client mods are required.

Is LeafSMP backed up?

World backups run every two hours. We also keep copies away from the server and regularly check that they can be restored.

Does LeafSMP have anti-cheat?

Yes. GrimAC checks movement and combat. Alerts are reviewed by a person; it does not automatically kick or ban players or delete their placed blocks.

It can pull a player back when it detects impossible movement. The server also hides concealed ores from clients to limit xray.

What do I do if I cannot connect?

Check that you are using Minecraft Java Edition, the right game version and leafsmp.com, and that your whitelist application was approved. If you still cannot connect, ask in Discord.

Is this the right LeafSMP?

Other Minecraft servers also use the name LeafSMP. This is the LeafSMP at leafsmp.com. Our Discord is https://discord.gg/3cQBcBm6ep.
